Viewing Full Content in Cells in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets

Summary This tutorial teaches how to view the full content in cells in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. Although you cannot automatically expand cells when clicked, you can view full cell contents in the formula bar, adjust the formula bar height, or use text wrapping to make all content visible.

Microsoft Excel

  1. Click on the cell you're interested in. The contents of the cell will be displayed in the formula bar at the top of the Excel interface.
  2. To expand the formula bar to view more content, hover your cursor over the bottom of the formula bar until it changes into a double-headed arrow. Click and drag to adjust the height of the formula bar.
  3. If you want to wrap text in a cell so all content is visible, select the cell(s), right-click, select 'Format Cells', go to the 'Alignment' tab, and check the 'Wrap text' box.

Here's an additional guide on how to display or hide formulas in Excel.

Google Sheets

  1. Click on the cell to see its contents in the formula bar at the top of the interface.
  2. Google Sheets automatically expands the formula bar to display the full contents of the cell when you click on it.
  3. To wrap text in a cell, select the cell(s), go to the 'Format' menu, hover over 'Text wrapping', and choose 'Wrap'.

More information on how to wrap text in Google Sheets can be found in the linked guide.
