How to Insert Star Symbol in Excel

Adding special symbols, like a star, in Excel can give your data more context or make your worksheets more visually engaging. Here are two easy ways to insert a star symbol:

Method 1: Insert Symbol Feature

  1. Select the cell where you want to insert the star symbol.
  2. Click on the Insert tab in the ribbon, then click on Symbol.
  3. In the Symbol dialog box, set Font to Wingdings.
  4. Scroll down until you see the star symbols, select the one you want, and click Insert.

Method 2: Using a Keyboard Shortcut

  1. Select the cell where you want to insert the star symbol.
  2. Press Alt on your keyboard and keep it held down.
  3. Type 042 on the numeric keypad while still holding down the Alt key.
  4. Release the Alt key, and a star symbol (*) should appear in your selected cell.
